Samantha Opp, MT-BC
Education/Training

Samantha Opp graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California with Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, magna cum laude.  During her time at Pacific, Samantha served as Vice-President of the Pacific Music Therapy Association, and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.  She was selected as a winner of the annual Concerto Competition, and performed Schumann’s Concerto in a minor in concert with the University Symphony Orchestra.

After graduating from Pacific, Samantha relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota in order to complete her internship at Park Nicollet Health Services.  Her internship consisted of work in a wide variety of settings, including home hospice, oncology, a bereavement group, and a Parkinson’s adult day-center.

Experience

After completing her internship, Samantha spent one year in the Chicago area as an employee of Community Therapy Services (CTS) in St. Charles, Illinois. At CTS, Samantha gained additional experience working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities, in addition to time in a nursing home, an equine therapy barn, and a special needs school.

Since relocating to California, Samantha has practiced music therapy in the oncology unit at Memorial Hospital in Modesto, and has assisted in a music enrichment program at Mary Graham Children’s Shelter in French Camp.

In addition to practicing music therapy, Samantha has taught piano for eleven years, working with both normal-functioning and special needs students, and in both individual and group settings.

Hobbies/Interests

Samantha enjoys performing with her bassoonist and saxophonist husband, improvising on the piano, quality time with friends, and movies that make her think and help her relax.
